Metropolitan Police pay scale.

It is I think

pertinent to remark here that on this point

there can be no comparison between the two

cases, since the Palestine Police personnel

concerned are redundant on account of the

withdrawal from Palestine whereas the writers

voluntarily left their Home police appointments

to take up Colonial employment.

10. Their apprehensions regarding the retiring

age are not fully understood but they probably arise from the recommendation made by the recent Amy Kap

Salaries Commission that the Hong Kong Covernment

should have the right, if necessary, to require

an officer to retire at the age of 45 and

that the officer should have the reciprocal right

to retire at that age if he so wisheż. wished.

This

recommendation is still under consideration and no

decision about it has yet been taken. A further

point in their letters which appears to be quite

at variance with the facts is the statement that

their

A

under the Salaries Commission Report police service

in Hong Kong prior to 1.1.47 is not to be recognised.

On both of these points the observations of the

Governor of Hong Kong are being sought and I will

write to you again when they are received.

Yours sincerely,
